Not for art-lovers only

Our number 1 tip for a cultural day outside Sóller: a visit to the studio of the painter Joan Miró in Palma. Also cool if you are not a seasoned museum goer. It is small, well-organised and much more lively than a standard museum. The studio, built in 1956 by Miró's friend, the architect Sert, forms the heart of the complex. The painting equipment and easels are there as if Miró could walk in to finish a canvas. Next to the studio is the old country house Son Boter, an atmospheric contrast with Sert's building, and even more special because of Miró's black and white murals on the 17th century walls. In addition to much of the work by Miró himself, there are regular exhibitions by other interesting contemporary painters. Feel free to take children to this beautiful place, there is a good chance that they will also tinker with brushes and paint at home afterwards.
